Spring RV Prep Checklist

Spring is finally here, and it’s time to dust off your RV and get it ready for another season of adventure! After months in storage, your RV needs a thorough inspection and a little maintenance to ensure it’s roadworthy and safe for your travels. Exterior Inspection

  • Inspect the Roof: Look for cracks, leaks, or damage to the seals. Repair any problem areas with RV-specific sealant.
  • Check Windows and Doors: Ensure all seals and gaskets are intact to prevent water leaks. Replace any damaged components.
  • Inspect the Awning: Unroll your awning and check for tears, mildew, or damage to the hardware. Clean it and make necessary repairs.
  • Examine Lights: Test all exterior lights, including headlights, taillights, and brake lights. Replace burnt-out bulbs.

Tires and Wheels

  • Check tire Pressure: Inflate all tires to the manufacturer’s recommended PSI.
  • Inspect Tread and Sidewalls: Look for cracks, bulges, or uneven wear.
  • Torque Lug Nuts: Ensure lug nuts are properly tightened.
  • Don’t forget the spare: Confirm your spare tire is in good condition and properly inflated.

Plumbing System 

  • Flush and Sanitize: Remove antifreeze and sanitize your water system with a bleach solution. Rinse thoroughly.
  • Inspect Pipes and Faucets: Check for leaks, cracks, or damage. Repair as needed.
  • Test the Water Pump: Run the pump to ensure it’s functioning correctly.
  • Fill Tanks: Add fresh water and check for proper operation of all plumbing fixtures.

Electrical System

  • Test the Battery: Charge your battery and check for corrosion or damage. Clean terminals and tighten connections.
  • Inspect the Converter and Inverter: Ensure they’re functioning properly.
  • Test Lights and Appliances: Confirm all interior and exterior lights, outlets, and appliances are working.

Propane System

  • Inspect the Tank: Check for leaks, damage, and proper pressure.
  • Test Appliances: Light the stove, water heater, and furnace to ensure they’re functioning. 
  • Check Hoses and Fittings: Look for cracks and leaks and replace damaged parts.

Interior Cleaning and Maintenance

  • Deep Clean: Vacuum, dust, and sanitize all surfaces. Don’t forget under furniture and in storage compartments.
  • Inspect for Pests: Look for signs of rodents or insects and address any infestations. 
  • Stock Essentials: Replenish your first aid kit, cleaning supplies, and road trip necessities. 
  • Test Safety Devices: Check smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and replace batteries if needed. Ensure fire extinguishers are charged and accessible.

Mechanical Check-Up

  • Inspect Fluids: Check and top off oil, coolant, brake fluid, and windshield washer fluid. 
  • Test the Engine and Generator: Run both systems to ensure smooth operation. Replace the generator’s oil and filter if necessary.
  • Check Brakes: Inspect brake pads and rotors for wear and tear.

Miscellaneous Prep

  • Inspect Slide-Outs: Test slide-outs and lubricate the mechanisms. Ensure seals are intact.
  • Check Vent Covers: Inspect roof vents and covers for cracks or damage. Replace as needed.
  • Review Your Gear: Ensure leveling blocks, hoses, and connectors are in good condition.
